IOAPA: New Computer Science Option for Upper-Level Coursework

Do you have high school students who want to learn computer science? Next school year, students will have the opportunity to sign up for our new year-long Computer Science course, offered through Redbird Advanced Learning.

The Computer Science course is intended for students with an interest in learning more about computer science or who are interested in taking AP Computer Science in the future. There are no prerequisites to the course, although students may find it helpful to know the basics of computer science prior to enrollment. The year-long course will be split into two parts. During the first semester, students will focus primarily on C++ as an introduction to computer science. The second semester will expand on the skills learned by implementing instruction in Java as a more advanced programming language. Because Java is the focus of the AP Computer Science A exam, students who take this course will have developed foundational skills that will serve them well in preparation for advanced computer science courses in the future.
